Rencor

Year: 2022

Media: Gray fleece, Ink

Size: 20” x 38” 68” (approximately)

My most self referencing piece, Rencor explores themes of resentment and attachment. Inspired by the lyrics "Porque el rencor hiere menos que el olvido"  (Resentment hurts less than being forgotten), I attempt to intellectualize my relationship with my former partner. The phrase served as incite into both of our thought processes.
The stuffed sweaters brandish dumbbell logos, screen prints of embossings, a reference to my sketchbooks writings where I say “...My mind is forever embossed by you. Forever pressed by your image, your actions and your words.” I utilize heather gray for its personal association to primary school, symbolic of our emotional inexperience. I inflate and elongate the sleeves to resemble the strain of the weight. Rencor is the embodiment of my defense mechanisms, My way of cope.
