Boy’s Uniform

Year: 2022

Media:
Boxing headgear, Leather, Paint

Size:
15" x 30" x 46" (approximately)

Boy’s Uniform serves as a commentary on masculinity, drawing from my experiences in jiu-jitsu, my Hispanic heritage, and other male-dominated, high-testosterone environments. It spotlights the idea of hiding behind a facade, encapsulated in the phrase "claim to be a man yet hide like a boy."
The materials used, such as the leather jacket and the boxing headgear, emphasize the artificial and inflated nature of masculinity. By varying the opacity in the paint, I accentuate the vulnerability and theatrical (thrown together) nature of the male bravado.
